Wagering-free bonuses are overrated

Before anyone comes for me, yes, they're better than a 40x wagering requirement on a locked bonus. But that's not exactly a high bar to clear, so let's not use it as the comparison point.

The issue is the amounts. A wagering-free €10 bonus versus a €100 bonus with wagering - on paper one is clearly cleaner but in practice the playthrough value isn't even close. Casinos aren't giving away free money, they're just repackaging the same deal in a way that feels fairer. The house edge still applies, the session still ends the same way most of the time.

Worth taking when they're available? Sure. Worth switching casinos for? Probably not.

The smaller amounts thing is what kills it for me. I'd rather have a proper bonus and just be smart about the wagering than get €15 cash and call it a win.

Switched to wagering-free only casinos about 6 months ago and honestly haven't looked back. Yeah the bonuses are smaller but what you see is what you get. No nasty surprises at withdrawal.

The restricted games list is the part nobody talks about. Half the time the eligible slots are titles you've never heard of with sketchy RTP. Free from wagering but not exactly free from catches.

Both have their place depending on how you play. High volume players probably get more out of traditional bonuses if they can manage the wagering. Casual players should stick to wagering-free every time.
