The welcome bonus era is ending

Been noticing for a while that welcome bonuses just aren't what they used to be and apparently there's a whole strategic reason behind it. Operators are moving toward these CPA models and more targeted acquisition stuff instead of just throwing big match bonuses at everyone. Makes sense from a business angle I guess, bonus hunters are a real problem for margins. But from where I'm sitting as a player, it's just kind of harder to find a good deal when trying out a new site. Not sure where it all ends up going

Welcome bonuses were always kind of a scam if you actually read the terms. People are only upset now because the illusion got harder to maintain.

nah the 2019-2020 era was genuinely good. you could actually clear bonuses if you were smart about it. now it's not even worth the time

Honestly? Good. The bonus hunting crowd bled these operators dry and now everyone acts surprised the offers got worse. You reap what you sow.

Still find decent offers if you know where to look. People complaining are usually the ones who never read terms and conditions to begin with and then act shocked.

What I don't get is why sportsbooks still manage to run competitive promos but casino arms of the same company are just totally given up. Same company different planet.

The whole acquisition model is broken from the start. You spend a ton getting someone in the door with a bonus and then have nothing to keep them. CPA doesn't fix that it just moves where the money gets wasted.

unpopular opinion but I think smaller casinos actually benefit from this trend. less pressure to compete on bonus size means they can just focus on being decent sites

Five years ago I'd try a new casino every month just based on the welcome offer. Now I haven't made a new account anywhere in like eight months. Make of that what you will.

Targeted offers are a nice way of saying they already know how much you're worth to them before you even sign up. Whole thing is a bit grim when you think about it too long.

i genuinely think most players don't even use the welcome bonus properly anyway so this whole conversation might be a bit pointless.

The lottery operators doing their own thing is the most interesting part of that article and nobody is talking about it. Completely different acquisition logic and it kind of works

Every site that launched with a crazy generous bonus in the last two years either tightened everything six months later or just disappeared. Generous and sustainable don't really go together in this industry.

Honestly the whole debate misses the point. Regulation is tightening across every major market and operators are just getting ahead of restrictions that are coming anyway. The bonus era was always going to end it just ended faster than people expected.
