Does your playstyle change when you're losing

Curious whether people actually stick to the same approach regardless of how a session is going or whether being down changes everything. I know I'm supposed to play the same way but the moment I'm chasing I can feel myself making different decisions. Bigger bets, different games, staying longer than I planned. Do you manage to keep it consistent??

Nobody plays the same when they're down. Anyone who says otherwise is either lying or has never had a real losing session. The brain shifts into recovery mode and that changes every decision you make.

i literally just described my last session reading this. started at 0.50 stake, was down 60% of my budget within an hour and somehow ended up at 2euro spins trying to get it back

The stake creep is the most common tell. You start reasonable, get down, convince yourself a bigger bet will recover it faster. It won't. It just means you lose the rest quicker.

when im up i play relaxed and enjoy it. when im down i become a completely different person and i hate it

I've gotten better at it over time but it took deliberately setting rules before I sit down. If I catch myself changing stakes because of the score I stop the session. Not always easy to follow through on but awareness helps.

Im worse when im up actually. get comfortable and start taking risks i wouldnt normally take. then give it all back in twenty minutes

Both directions are a problem. Chasing losses by increasing stakes and pressing wins by playing recklessly when you're up. The rational approach is to treat each spin as independent of everything that came before it which is almost impossible to do emotionally.

I started keeping sessions short specifically for this reason. Less time means less chance of the session turning and less chance of me making emotional decisions to recover it.

The honest answer is that very few people play identically regardless of score. The ones who come closest are the ones who set hard rules before the session starts and treat breaking them as a failure regardless of outcome.

Hard rules only work if you actually respect them when the moment comes. Easy to set a stop loss when you're calm. Different story when you're down and telling yourself just one more.
