Buy bonus vs waiting for it to trigger naturally

Been going back and forth on this lately. Sometimes I'll sit through 200 spins waiting for a bonus that never comes and think I should have just bought it. Other times I buy it, get a nothing bonus, and feel like I wasted the extra stake. Is there an actual argument for one over the other or is it purely a patience thing?

Mathematically it makes no difference. You're paying a premium to skip to the feature but the expected value of the bonus is the same whether you bought it or triggered it naturally.

i know the math is the same but i still feel worse losing a bought bonus than a triggered one. like i made the active choice to spend more and it still went nowhere

The only argument for buying is time. If I have an hour to play I'd rather guarantee I see at least 2 or 3 bonuses than spend the whole session in base game and get one trigger.

This. It's a time compression argument not a value argument. You're not getting better odds you're just getting more action per hour.

Some games the bonus buy is genuinely overpriced relative to the average bonus result though. Worth checking what multiplier you're paying before committing.

Had a 4000x from a natural trigger last week on a game where the buy costs 70x stake. That's the dream but it's survivorship bias, I know.

I only buy on shorter sessions or when I'm specifically testing a game I haven't played before. Rather see what the feature actually does than judge the whole slot from the base game.

Testing a game with a bonus buy is actually smart. You learn more about the slot in one bought feature than in 300 base game spins.

depends on the game for me. some slots have such a bad base game that buying is the only reason to play them at all

I've started tracking my bought bonus results vs natural triggers separately. Early data but bought ones seem to run colder for me. Probably variance but it's put me off for now.

Tracking is interesting but you'd need a huge sample size before that means anything. 50 bought bonuses is nothing statistically.
