Tell us a bit about yourself. Who are you and what is your role at Caleta Gaming?
I’m the co-founder and CEO of Caleta Gaming. I’ve been working with software development for about 20 years and in the gaming industry, specifically, for around 12 years. I graduated in Information Systems at UFSC, a public University of Santa Catarina State, located here in Florianópolis – south of Brazil, where Caleta is based.
How did you first start in the gambling industry? What were the initial challenges?
I worked on the development team of a gaming company around 13 years ago.
My task at that time was to create mathematical models for casino games. So once the games were developed, I was also involved in the testing to make sure the RTP of the game was accurate, adjust the math if necessary, tweak the gameplay to make the games more engaging, and so on.
During this time, I met Paulo, my co-partner, and we both love games and saw big potential in this market, so we decided to set up our own business.
When we created Caleta in 2013, we were about four people. We didn’t have the resources to hire more people at that time. So we had to do a bit of everything, tasks we knew as math, game development, and tests, and tasks we didn’t know, such as business management, financial, commercial, marketing, art, and sounds.
It was challenging, but it taught us a lot about the market. This is one of the reasons why we have a very efficient and effective team today, as we know exactly what needs to be done and improved in each area of the company.
With so many game studios on the market, what do you think is the biggest differentiator for Caleta Gaming?
Caleta is synonymous with agility and efficiency. We work not only to make better games but also to create tools that optimize our time, like GP5, a proper gaming engine built by ourselves that allows us to develop casino games with quality, and agility.
Caleta provides a gaming platform with the end-to-end technological domain and supports game integration from other companies on its own RGS.

The math model needs to be engaging enough to even if players lose a few rounds, they still want to hit something, or that there’s something they can get on the next spin, or a bonus might show up.

There’s no way to predict, but there are ways to make it more likely.
Here at Caleta, we have a motto that says “making better games,” which moves us forward to work harder and improve our process with each project. Having a solid theme is a good starting point. The player is attracted by either curiosity or familiarity, so defining a theme and doing proper research and studies on it is an excellent way to give the game more chances to be a hit. Another way is to ensure the math model and features are engaging and keep the players wanting to play more and to get higher prizes, collect something from a bonus, or reach a certain number of symbols to trigger a special feature. There are a lot of different types of players that want different experiences when playing a slot game. There’s no way to make a game that will please all of them at once, but knowing that there’s the power to create different games that will be played and cherished by a large base of fans and that for us is a hit.
Looking to the future, what is the next big release Caleta Gaming is planning?
We have an audacious plan for 2023, but for now, I cannot disclose details.

Be creative, persistent, and ambitious.

Any business that uses technology to modify, enhance, or automate financial services for businesses or consumers.

For the first time, Caleta will be exhibiting at Ice.
