First ever 5 scatter and it had to land on Spinman and pay 800x. I sat there thinking the game had glitched because I've had standard 3 scatter bonuses pay more than that. Is this actually possible or did something go wrong? Feels like the worst outcome I could have imagined for a 5 scatter.

that's just gambling mate, no outcome is guaranteed no matter how many scatters you land. i've had a single base game spin pay more than a full bonus before

800x on a 5 scatter is rough but it's possible, sometimes the bonus just doesn't connect and there's nothing wrong with the game, it's variance doing what variance does
The 5 scatter buy on Spinman costs around 1000x stake so landing it naturally and getting less than that back is genuinely painful even if it's within the math. The higher scatter count gives better potential but doesn't guarantee it, better bonuses just have more favourable setups not guaranteed bigger pays.
