Meet the Slots Creators – Pragmatic Play’s Roxana Nazalu Interview

Pragmatic Play entered the online gambling world back in 2007 under a different name, but under its current ownership, it’s been around since 2015. 

The change was a blessing as Pragmatic Play soon became a huge name in the industry. Recognised by the EGR Awards on several occasions as Software Rising Star and for Slot Provision, things are looking up for this software provider. 

In 2018, Pragmatic Play named Roxana Nazalu – Head of Marketing. Since then, she has continually sought to improve the company as well as make sure that every player, provider, operator and affiliate website hears about what they have to offer. 

With the year coming to a close, how have the last twelve months been for Pragmatic Play from a commercial viewpoint? Have there been any standout moments?

While it has been a very unpredictable year with all that has happened, it’s been a successful one for Pragmatic Play, from a business standpoint. The launch of our new Latin American Hub and the considerable expansion in Africa have been the highlights, as well as our entry into many new countries.

It has also been a huge success for our multi-product approach, with numerous tier one operators such as LeoVegas, 888 and BetVictor all now using multiple products of ours. With widespread growth, both in terms of commercial agreements and products, it has been another positive year for our company.

With new regulations sweeping Europe, does the continent remain a key component of any commercial strategy?

Across Europe, we are seeing new regulations or the tightening of current regulations, causing some operators and suppliers to look further afield for more simple markets. However, player protection is at the heart of what we do, and we welcome regulation. 

While new markets, such as Germany, or those such as Sweden that are tightening rules may present some teething problems, it doesn’t change Europe’s position as arguably the focal point for all iGaming companies, with a mature market of players in high-value territories. 

Pragmatic Play has signed several commercial deals in Latin America and Africa in recent months. How important is this expansion into new territories for iGaming suppliers?

The establishment of two new teams in these continents has allowed us to gain local expertise, which has been vital for the swift growth we’ve experienced. Through a boots-on-the-ground approach, led by Victor Arias and Solomon Godwin, we’ve been able to understand operators’ and players’ needs more innately, and can provide valuable insight to our products through people that understand pain points for operators.

By broadening our horizons, we can reach more players than ever before and grow our presence in regulated markets all over the world, something which is extremely exciting for us at Pragmatic Play. 

How have your products been received in these new hubs? 

Our offering has been received extremely well in the new territories we’ve entered this year. Across Latin America, we’ve already gone live with customers who are taking multiple verticals, with them also set to take our soon-to-be-launched Virtual Sports content as well. 

Through our single API integration, customers are eager to integrate more than just traditional slot or Live Casino content. 

With the proven success of our product portfolio and market understanding, new customers know they are getting access to games which can elevate their offering to a new level, while also helping them achieve their own business goals. It’s been a real success story for us so far.

What should we look out for from Pragmatic Play in the future? 

While it’s been a positive year so far, we’re only just getting started as a true multi-product provider. Our Live Casino offering continues to go from strength to strength, while our Bingo products are already award-winning. 

As more and more territories regulate, we have more opportunity to not just partner with online casinos to supply our impressive slot portfolio, but also to give them a complete iGaming content solution through a single integration. It is set to be a very exciting period ahead for us!
